What reviewers say
GearJunkie's tester found the fit and finish close to flawless and the knife comfortable and well balanced. Reviewers generally say Buck's heat treatment makes its 420HC steel better than most knives using the same steel. It is easy to sharpen, resists rust and tends to roll rather than chip. The common complaints are weight and grit: at 7.2 oz it is heavy for hiking, and the tester found manufacturing grit in the lock that needed a cleaning and a few drops of oil. He also warns the sheath's inside snap can rub the handle over time.
Good
- Strong lockback design with a long service record
- Easy-to-sharpen, rust-resistant steel
- Handsome brass and ebony build, made in the USA
- Leather sheath included
- Lifetime warranty
Not so good
- Heavy at 7.2 oz for a pocket or hiking knife
- May need cleaning and oiling out of the box
- Sheath snap can wear the handle finish
- Clip point tip is thinner than a drop point for prying
Who it's for
Hunters, campers and anyone who wants a traditional folding knife for truck, camp and field work. Skip it if you want a light pocket knife; Buck's 110 LT or Slim models are lighter.
